Some ask for envy'd power, which public hate
Pursues, and hurries headlong to their fate,
Some think that they, are from corruption free,
While others thank them, fittest tools to be:
With itch of honour, and opinion vain,
All things beyond their real worth we strain;
So much the thirst of power, fires the blood,
That many would be great, but few be good.
